The Warmer Kiwi Homes programme report by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) found that, after a heat pump was installed, the proportion of people stating that they were in good health or excellent health rose dramatically.
The proportion of survey respondents rating their general health as “very good” or “excellent” increased from 46.2 before heat pump installation to 61.5 after installation.
Warmer Kiwi Homes offers government-funded grants that cover up to 80 percent of the cost of insulation and up to 80 percent of the cost of an applicable heat pump up to $3,000.
“We all want a warm, dry, healthy home, but that’s especially important if you have a respiratory condition, as putting on another jersey doesn’t help if you’re breathing in cold air,” says Warmer Kiwi Homes Manager Eddie Thompson.
The evaluation covers 127 households in Auckland/Waikato, Wellington and Christchurch who applied for a heat pump through WKH in 2021.
